On Board The Ski Train

We started out on this train with a bunch of people and landed up making great friends and having a fantastic trip.

Here is a shot of me and Lesleigh on board the ski train headed into the mountains.

The Denver Ski Train

There are not many places or opportunities that anyone gets to ride on a ski train. We got to go on the ski train this weekend out to the very base of the mountain slopes. The ski Train is America’s largest scheduled passenger train and is in its 69th season offering a postcard-perfect train experience through the dramatic peaks of the Rockies. Skiers and sightseers alike enjoy a day at Winter Park/Mary Jane Resort, one of Colorado’s most popular winter destinations.

For comfort, convenience and amenities, there’s no better route to go. We travel through scenery you’ll never see any other way. In addition to the scenic wonders of the Flatirons and South Boulder Canyon, we encountered rugged alpine wilderness and vistas not to be seen anywhere else but on the Ski Train. We passed through dozens of tunnels including the historic Moffat Tunnel under the Continental Divide.

A new Beginning into 2009

Lesleigh's parents spent 4 great weeks with us both in Mexico and in Denver and now that they have gone back to U.K. The house does seem very quiet.

This is what happens when you park outside and we get a good dump of snow. All rear wheel drives without 4 x 4 have no traction in these conditions.

This is a view of the back garden and believe it or not this will be gone again in two days.

We went to watch the final championship ice hockey game at Denver University and got to watch some fantastic talent on the ice, it can be an aggressive game too. Above is the winning team from Boston.

This was the start of the news years evening in our lounge with all of our neighbors.

We had a fantastic start to the new year with a neighborhood crawl. We started out at our house and had starters and margaritas with our neighbors (Doug, Amy, Todd and Cassie, Kirsten & Scott) and then went onto the next house for more starters, then onto the next house for a main meal and then off to another house for more liquid refreshments. All in we had a few drinks too many and a lot of great company with loads of fun. The good part is we did not have to drive anywhere and the beverages seem to hold off the cold.

Well new years celebrations draw to a close and the working year is up and in full swing. Not an hour to spare in the diary and the days are flying by. Last weekend Lesleigh and I had a few shopping chores to complete on Saturday and then on Sunday we got up at 05h00 and set off to the slopes for a morning ski session. The difference is that when it snows that crisp powder is fantastic to ski on. Yesterday was a lot harder and icy and not nearly as easy to turn on as our previous experience. But we did have another successful day out as neither of us fell and Lesleigh found a lot more confidence on the turns.

To all of the mates, wishing you a fantastic year ahead and lets stay in contact more regularly this year?
