so the journey continues, We spent three great days in Phoenix. It was very warm but fantastic in the evenings. We had dinner with the SA pro golfer Tim Clarke and his fiance on the Saturday evening. The homes in Scottsdale, a suburb of Phoenix are really great. They are fairly big and the architecture is a mixture of Spanish and European. Lesleigh and I both enjoyed the town and the city suburbs and went to see a couple of show houses. The cost of housing is good value and their is a lot of development on the go.

On the Sunday night we attended a concert in the park which was free and it was really good to see all the families sitting on the grass listening to the bands play. Such a relaxed atmosphere. This town is definitely golf mad and there are over twenty golf courses just in the Scottsdale suburb.

We left on Monday morning and headed South to Tuscon, but I am afraid our impression of this town was not great. It appeared to be rustic and warm but everything was under repair including roads and buildings. The town centre was small and not nearly as pretty as any of the others we have seen. So we sat and had lunch in Tuscon and then made a rapid departure west on route to San Diego.

The road on the interstate 8 runs through a desert and then into the mountains, much the same as the drive from Swakopmund to Windhoek. We saw the sand dunes through to the arrival on Mission Bay beach in San Diego.

We had a light lunch at the beach and then began the search for accommodation. This place is busy with congested freeways and a lot of conference goers. The people at the beach front were all shapes and sizes and even though it was a little chilly everyone paraded up and down with little on.

We went through to the city centre in the afternoon and walked the water frontage. Amazing to see was that the airport was next to the harbour and planes literally flew by just above the buildings to land in what looked like in the bay. This is a military naval town and in harbour were three aircraft carriers which are beasts of boats. We headed back in land and had dinner at a little Pizza pub in Fashion Valley Centre.
