Saturday 10th May

Today we went out for a walk in the forest opposite the house we are staying in. There is a lot of wild life roaming the neighbourhood, from chipmunks, to rabbits and squirrels. We have even seen a fox and several elk in the garden. After the walk we headed out on a drive through a canyon and a little town called Morrison, down to the famous Denver Amphitheatre at a place called Red Rocks. The scenery was dramatically beautiful. Then last night we went into downtown Denver and caught a train in from Engelwood. We visited a couple of bars and then had dinner at an Irish pub. The streets are very clean and everything works. The bars all shut at two in the morning and the last trains out of town are at the same hour.

Today we woke and had a big breakfast and then Fred and Lorraine took us on a drive up the mountain side about 20 minutes outside Denver city. The views are spectacular and tons of people riding bikes up the mountain and hikers on the trails. The ride is 17 miles up hill and at 10000ft above sea level these riders are superbly fit. They are training for a race in two months that is 120 miles long and covers three mountain passes, called the triple bi pass. We also did some shopping at the local malls and are taking the afternoon to relax back at the house ahead of a busy week this next week.

Driving on the right stills seams odd but practise will help get the hang of it.
